A Jaecoo J7 SHS plug-in hybrid crossover charging, representing PHEV running costs in the Philippines

Practical Jaecoo J7 SHS Cost and Range Guide - Apex Engine

The Jaecoo J7 SHS runs 106 km on battery alone before the engine wakes up. Apex Engine breaks down its real price, range, warranty and service gaps. Read on.

The Jaecoo J7 SHS arrived in the Philippines on August 15, 2025 with a single, very deliberate pitch: it is a plug-in hybrid crossover that undercuts the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i — the best-selling model of the country’s fastest-growing brand — by roughly ₱149,000, while carrying the same size battery and a near-identical electric-only range.

That is a serious proposition, and most of it holds up. But there is one number the J7 cannot show you, and its rival can. Pag-usapan natin pareho.

Key Takeaways

  • ₱1,449,000 SRP at launch. Introductory pricing of ₱1,399,000 (Comfort) and ₱1,499,000 (Premium) still appears on listing sites — always ask which price is live today.
  • 18.3 kWh LFP battery, 106 km electric-only range, about 1,200 km combined with the 60-litre tank.
  • The 1.5 TDGI petrol unit works mainly as a generator (141 hp / 215 Nm); the electric motor drives the wheels (201 hp / 310 Nm). Published combined output varies by source — see the specs note below.
  • Warranty is the headline strength: 7 years / 200,000 km on the vehicle, among the longest offered in PH.
  • Jaecoo has published no Philippine PMS price list. We could not source one, so we are not printing an estimate dressed as a figure.
  • Charging is a genuine FWD-friendly setup — 3.3 kW portable and 7 kW wall chargers are bundled, and DC fast charging does 30–80% in 20 minutes.
  • Too new for verified owner-defect data. The real near-term risk is service network reach, not mechanical failure.

Which Model Year Does This Guide Cover? (2025–2026)

This guide covers the J7 SHS from its August 15, 2025 Philippine launch through the 2026 model year, in both Comfort and Premium trims. Omoda & Jaecoo only formally opened in the Philippines in February 2025, so the entire local history of this car is barely more than a year long — worth remembering whenever you read a confident claim about its long-term reliability, including ours.

One specs caveat worth stating plainly. Published combined system output for the J7 SHS varies between sources — some list 275 hp, others 347 hp (255 kW) and 525 Nm. The 347 hp figure traces back to pre-launch coverage of a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version; the car actually sold here is front-wheel drive. The component figures (201 hp motor, 141 hp engine) are consistent across sources, so those are what we have put in the table.

The Number Jaecoo Has Not Published

This is the honest centre of the review, so we are putting it above the nice parts.

As of October 2026 we could not find a Philippine PMS schedule or price list for any Jaecoo model. Not on the local site, not in launch coverage, not in dealer material we could verify. For a brand whose entire value argument is lower cost of ownership, that is a real gap.

What we can tell you:

  • In Malaysia, Jaecoo services on a 10,000 km / 6-month interval, with the 1,000 km first service free. Routine visits run about RM405, stepping up at the 30,000 km and 60,000 km milestones.
  • That schedule does not transfer to this car. The Malaysian J7 pricing we found covers spark plugs and DCT transmission oil — components belonging to the conventional turbo-petrol J7, not to this series-parallel PHEV. Quoting it here as “the J7’s PMS cost” would be wrong, so we are not doing it.

What to actually do: before signing, ask the service advisor for the per-visit peso cost at 10,000 / 20,000 / 40,000 / 60,000 km, and get it in writing.

106 km on Battery: What That Actually Buys You Here

A 106 km electric range sounds modest next to a long-range BEV. In Philippine use it is close to ideal, and here is why.

The median Metro Manila round-trip commute fits inside it with room to spare. Charge overnight and the engine stays asleep on weekdays — you are effectively driving an EV on residential electricity rates. The petrol engine then exists for exactly the trips where an EV gets stressful: Baguio, Bicol, an unplanned provincial run.

That is the PHEV argument in its strongest form, and the J7 executes it properly. The catch is the same one every PHEV has: it only works if you can actually plug in.

The PH Charging Reality

Unusually for this segment, Jaecoo bundles both a 3.3 kW portable cable and a 7 kW wall charger with the car. That matters more than it sounds — a wall box is a real cost line on some rivals, and including it removes the most common reason PHEV owners quietly stop charging.

  • 7 kW wall box at home is the intended daily pattern. An 18.3 kWh pack is small, so a nightly top-up is quick and cheap.
  • 6.6 kW AC takes 180 minutes for 30–80% — fine overnight, slow if you were hoping to top up during a mall stop.
  • 40 kW DC does 30–80% in 20 minutes, which is genuinely useful and better DC capability than some PHEV rivals bother with.

The honest version: if you park on a street, in a condo without an assigned outlet, or anywhere you cannot run a cable, this car loses most of its advantage and you are paying to haul a battery you never fill. Sa ganoong sitwasyon, mas matino ang isang self-charging hybrid — which is exactly what the cheaper J5 SHS-H is for.

TCO vs. the Rival It Was Built to Undercut

On paper the Jaecoo wins almost every line: cheaper by ₱149,000, longer warranty, marginally more range. Then it loses the one line that decides a ten-year ownership decision.

BYD’s figure is an actual quoted number. Jaecoo’s is a blank. A ₱149,000 price advantage disappears entirely if the J7’s servicing turns out to run even ₱3,000 more per visit across six visits — and right now, nobody outside the dealer network can tell you whether it does. That is not an accusation; it is an information gap, and it is fixable the moment Jaecoo publishes a price list.

Our standing position on this site is that a documented number beats a better-sounding one.

Warranty: Read It as Three Numbers, Not One

Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines advertises a genuinely strong warranty, but it is three different figures and the marketing tends to quote the biggest one:

  • Vehicle: 7 years / 200,000 km. This is the real headline and it beats most of the segment, BYD included.
  • Engine (ICE models): 10 years / 1,000,000 km.
  • Battery (EV models): 8 years / 200,000 km.

Where a PHEV lands between those two is not clearly published, and the J7 has both an engine and a traction battery. Do not assume it inherits the best of both.

Safety and Equipment

Both trims carry six to seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster and voice control. The Premium adds a panoramic sunroof, heated mirrors, and a power liftgate for ₱100,000.

We could not source an independent ASEAN NCAP or Euro NCAP result for the Philippine-spec J7 SHS, so we are not quoting a star rating. If a dealer quotes one to you, ask which body issued it and for which market’s specification — those details change the answer more often than buyers expect.

Known Issues: Too New to Say

Our house rule is that a Known Issues section lists verified owner-defect patterns or it says nothing. For the J7 SHS, it says nothing — the car has been on sale here since August 2025, the local fleet is small, and we found no credible defect pattern to report. Writing a plausible-sounding list would be inventing data, and we don’t do that.

What is worth weighing instead:

  • Service network reach. Omoda & Jaecoo opened its first PH dealership in December 2024. Coverage is growing but thin outside major metros. Check where your nearest service centre actually is — not where the brand plans one.
  • Parts lead times for a young brand are an unknown, and an unknown is a risk even when nothing is broken.
  • Resale has no track record yet, in either direction.

Verdict: The Cheaper PHEV, With One Blank Left to Fill

The J7 SHS is a well-judged car. It reads the Philippine PHEV use case correctly — enough battery for the week, enough tank for the province — bundles the wall charger instead of charging extra for it, and backs the whole thing with a 7-year/200,000 km warranty that the established brands have not matched.

It is also ₱149,000 cheaper than the car it was openly built to undercut.

What it cannot yet do is tell you what it costs to maintain. For a buyer comparing against a rival that publishes an exact five-year figure, that blank is the deciding factor — not because the J7 is likely to be expensive, but because “likely” is doing far too much work in a ten-year decision.

Buy it if you can charge at home, you want the longest warranty in the class, and you are willing to extract service pricing from the dealer in writing. Wait if you want the numbers settled before you sign — and if that’s you, our breakdown of what a Philippine PMS actually covers is the right place to start building your question list.

Cross-shopping the rest of the range? The J5 SHS-H hybrid is the ₱999,000 entry point that never needs a plug, and the EJ6 is the full-electric option with two years of free PMS included.

Frequently Asked Questions
